Preventing Stress Fractures in Dancers

http://dancemagazine.com.au/

I came across this great article in a dance magazine online recently and I thought I would share it with you.  It focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and managment of stress fractures in dancers, but it's relevance is to everyone.

Bone Mineral Density(BMD) is a very important issue for everyone.  Osteoporosis is a silent systemic disease.  Most of us don't know that we have osteoporosis until we fall and we fracture a bone. Many things influence our BMD, including hormones, nutrition, weight, exercise, smoking and caffeine.  BMD is measured using a DEXA scanner, which is like an x-ray machine and your GP can refer you for one.
