Joseph Pilates pioneered this form of exercise, which has many therapeutic and rehabilitative qualities.
In our everyday life, we often adopt poor posture, such as slumping when we sit, overtime this can lead to pain. Pilates helps you to develop an awareness of your posture, teaches you how to adjust and control your posture and how to correct faulty movement patterns.
In Pilates we strengthen the core muscle groups which are responsible for maintaining good posture. The core muscle groups are abdominals, the back extension muscles and the muscles of our hips and shoulders. Developing strength in these muscles through Pilates, helps us maintain good posture throughout the day and thus reduces pain. Pilates exercises are also great at developing flexibility in our muscles and increasing or maintaining joint mobility.
